Lake Bomoseen is a freshwater lake in the western partof the state of Vermont in the towns of Castleton and Hubbardtonin Rutland County. It is thelargest lake that lies entirely withinthe state’s boundaries, with a surface areaof approximately 2,400 acres. The lakewas formed by glaciation and has an average and maximum depth of 27 feet and 65feet respectively. It drains a 24,770-acrewatershed, has five major inlets, and empties to the Castleton River, atributary of the Poultney River, which in turn flows west to East Bayat the southern end of Lake Champlain. Bomoseen State Park occupies a portion of the lake’s western shoreline. Most of the remaining area around the lake isprivately owned. The lake has such recreational accommodations as a publicbeach, marinas, and public boat launches, in addition to the State Park. The lake started attracting summer guest earlyon and hotels and resorts sprung up in the late 19th century. “The Glenwood” was one of those earlyhotel/resorts but I could not find any history or information on it or the era in general. It is on this card, which is theonly vignette that I could find of “The Glenwood”. I found other “Glenwood” cards but this oneis unique as far as I could tell. It waspublished by “Herbert W. Smith”, a jeweler that was located in FairHaven Vermont, postmarked 1910 and is in good condition with minor wearexcept a bent upper right corner and a clean, clear image and reverse. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwisenoted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated.
