Privacy Statement

We have made a firm commitment to your online privacy. This page discloses information gathering and dissemination practices for Virtual Vermont Internet Magazine, an on-line publication of Virtual Vermont Internet Services, a sole proprietorship.

General

The IP (Internet Protocol) address of each visitor is recorded in a log file, along with the date and time of the visit and the name of the page visited. THIS IS COMMON PROCEDURE THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET. This information yields broad statistics on which areas of the site are most popular, to help diagnose technical problems and to administer the site. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns an IP address when you log on to the Internet; generally, the IP may reveal information such as who your ISP is and sometimes what city, state or country you visited from, but not without a lot of investigation. Normally, you will be assigned a different address each time you connect; some broadband subscribers (cable and DSL) may assign what is called a "static" or "dedicated" IP address, but that doesn't mean we would know more about you. As far as we're concerned, an address is just a bunch of numbers.

This site contains links to other web sites. Virtual Vermont Internet Magazine is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites.

Except for the Forum, this site does not directly use "cookies." See also the next section:

Affiliations and Sponsorships

We are members of several affiliate programs (including but not limited to Orvis, Lake Champlain Chocolates, the Vermont Country Store and Barnes and Noble). When a user follows a link to one of these sites, a unique code is used to identify Virtual Vermont Internet Magazine as the source of the visit so as to pay us commissions on any purchases which may result, and does not specifically identify the user. We do not pass any information to these affiliate programs other than that code. Each of these affiliate programs is responsible for its own privacy policy.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.

Surveys

Our survey forms ask users for contact information (such as EMail address) and demographic information (such as ZIP or postal code, age or occupation). We use contact data from our surveys to answer user questions, to receive and respond to user suggestions and to send information about our company, only if such information is requested. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the Choice/Opt-out section below. Demographic and profile data is also collected at our site. We use this data to tailor our user's experience at our site, showing them content in which we think they might be interested, and displaying the content according to their preferences. We do not share this data with anyone except in the broadest statistical sense, such as to document the number of visitors to our site over a given period.

Contests

We occasionally run contests on our site in which we ask users for contact information (such as EMail address) and demographic information (such as mailing address, age or occupation). We use contact data from our contests to advise participants and sponsors (if any) as to the outcome of the contest. We do not retain information so gathered beyond what is reasonably necessary to so advise participants and sponsors. We do not add this contact information to any sort of mailing list, nor is it shared with anyone. We do not share this data with anyone except in the broadest statistical sense.

Public Involvement

Certain areas on our site invite users to submit opinions, questions, suggestions, stories, recipes, corrections to information, notification of upcoming events, etc. in which we ask users for contact information (such as EMail address or telephone number). We use contact data from these areas only to respond to the users who have chosen to participate in the activity offered. We do not retain information so gathered beyond what is reasonably necessary to provide a response to a question or occasionally to verify information submitted. We do not add contact information to any sort of mailing list except as herein described, nor is the information shared with anyone.

Public Forum

This site makes a Forum available to its users, in which we ask for contact information (such as name and EMail address). We may use the contact information gathered to respond to the user's comment or question. We do not keep any such contact information beyond what is reasonably necessary to make a response. Please remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes public and you should exercise discretion when deciding to disclose personal information.

Security

This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of information under our control. All such information is maintained on personal computers, access to which is limited to the principals of Virtual Vermont Internet Services.

Children's Issues

First and foremost, we are parents ourselves. We want your children to be as safe as we strive to make our own.

We firmly believe that it is neither our responsibility nor within our power to control what your child does on line. However, we do not knowingly collect contact information from children without prior parental consent or parental notification. In all areas where contact information is gathered, a notice is clearly posted to advise that participation in the activity indicates the need for knowledge and consent of a parent, as appropriate. Regardless, contact information will be used only to respond directly to the request and will not be used for any other purpose.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable off-line contact information without prior parental consent.

We do not distribute any personally identifiable information to third parties under any circumstances.

We do not knowingly provide the ability to publicly post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable contact information without prior parental consent.

We do not entice children to participate with the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity, or to divulge more information than is needed to participate in the activity.
